Strandakar Hotell & Restaurang will provide residents, summer residents and temporary visitors an opportunity for recreation, good food and peaceful accommodation in beautiful surroundings on the tranquil east coast of Gotland. The hotel is in traditional Gotland style with a modern touch. Strandakar will contribute to the visitors’ experience by offering activities that can enhance their well-being and health.
We maintain environmentally friendly standards even though we have chosen not to certify ourselves. We have our own solar panels that give us environmentally friendly energy. All of Strandakar is heated with geothermal energy and we have our own sewage treatment plant.
Strandakar Hotell & Restaurant is owned and operated by Strandakar AB. The hotel was built under the company’s own management during 2015 – 2018. We opened in 2018 and you will find us on Gotland’s east coast on the way to Herta / Hörte beach.
Charlotte has spent all summers since 1965 on Gotland and since 1967 she has spent them in När. Lars fell in love with the island when he came along with Charlotte in 2001. Since 2005, the couple have lived permanently in their former summer house in När.
Even though Lars and Charlotte enjoyed themselves, they lacked somewhere to meet friends and get good food nearby without having to stand in the kitchen themselves. The plans of a rural inn took form early and the search took them both around Gotland and to various places on the mainland. But their hearts made them stay in När with its beautiful surroundings and its tranquility and harmony.
Here they can charge their batteries and enjoy life in full. So why not build something new and let others enjoy what they love? The result was Strandakar Hotell & Restaurang. The hotel is in traditional Gotland style with a modern touch of architecture and choice of materials.
2017, head chef Andreas Hedman joined the team and together Lars, Charlotte and Andreas run a hotel with two restaurants that they themselves would want to visit.
The bistro is open
Fridays from 5 pm, Saturdays from 12 noon and
Sundays from 12 noon to 4 pm.
The restaurant serves a five-course tasting menu on Fridays and Saturdays from 17:00.
